As we go along

It’s been several years since my first self-published novel. Without any professional help, I’ve had to hack and slash my way through the mess.

The first book involved me writing html code.

Yes, code.

Me, the luddite who can’t program her own dang phone.

The publishing adventure-struggle-debacle has been a near-constant learning experience.

Like, I learned why editors are important.

And that cover art deserves a budget.

My first paperback novel cover looked like an Albert Camus antique. I had the widows-and-orphans problem (a few words or a line dangling onto an otherwise empty page). An art contract I prepaid for that fell through. Even made my own covers!!!

*shudder*

Recently, I realized I hadn’t finalized the paperback of Fate’s Gamble because of a formatting issue which is now resolved thanks to internet research, gobs of caffeine, and ear-scalding profanity.

Yep. Page one now starts on story page one, not the table of contents.

It’s the little things in life.

Of course, now I have to go back to the earlier books, all eight of them.
